Effective July 1, 2015, Tennessee drivers caught driving without the proper insurance face an increased fine of $300, originally $100. From January 1, 2016 and onwards, cops can have your vehicle towed on the spot if you are unable to produce proof of valid insurance. Before January 1, 2017, the state of TN will work on getting a state-of-the-art insurance verification system. The system is designed to track down uninsured drivers by accessing vehicle registration records. Vehicles identified as having uninsured owners will not be eligible for registration renewal.
